Is KHS regulated by the SRA?
No. KHS is an unregulated firm and provides unregulated legal and business services only. See our regulatory information for what this means for you.
Can you help with immigration or leases?
KHS does not carry out immigration or lease work. We can refer you to independent SRA-regulated solicitors, or Registered Foreign Lawyers for immigration. This is a referral only and KHS is not involved in the work.
What legal work can an unregulated firm do?
Under the Legal Services Act 2007, only six reserved activities need an authorised lawyer: rights of audience in court, conduct of litigation, reserved instrument activities such as conveyancing, probate applications, notarial activities and administering oaths. Other legal work, including legal advice, contract drafting, will writing and company secretarial work, can be provided by unregulated firms such as KHS.
Can you help NRIs in the UK with legal matters in India?
Yes. Our network of over 80 lawyers across India, through KHS Associates in Mumbai, Delhi, Punjab, Gujarat, Chennai and Hyderabad, handles family, civil and criminal matters, including divorce, property disputes, power of attorney, FIRs and bail. Our Overseas Director, Harjas Singh Chadha, is based in India and oversees NRI matters.
What does a McKenzie Friend do?
A McKenzie Friend supports you in court when you represent yourself. They can sit with you, take notes, help with your papers and quietly advise you. Our McKenzie Friends are retired solicitors and barristers, experienced paralegals and Registered Foreign Lawyers. If needed, we can ask the judge for permission to speak for you, which judges grant only in exceptional circumstances.
